The number of probiotic research increased since 2003 and currently there were about 229 studies in total. Probiotics, known as friendly gut bacteria, live in the gut and provide health benefits. A study found that probiotics can reduce cholesterol (TG) and treat lactose intolerance. And the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) position standing stated that probiotics supplementation could accelerate recovery, reduce soreness or muscle damage following resistance training with co-ingested with protein. In sports performance or athletes training, probiotics were found to have positive effect on vertical jump power, fat mass and peak power. Beside the athletes’ immune system could increase and the risk of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory system disorders during training could be reduced.
